This gigantic volcanic complex is located east of Copiapó (Atacama region) and west of Fiambalá (Catamarca province). Its main block culminates in 3 peaks, which have a west-east alignment; in that order, these summits are called West (6721 m asl), Central (6752 m asl) and Principal (6893 m asl).

The Ojos del Salado volcano is known for being the highest volcano in the world and the second highest summit in America. Undoubtedly a great challenge for mountaineers seeking to reach its summit.
